Songs For The Colour Yellow

Halfway through making "A Week Away", we released "A Trip Into Space" as a single, and it got airplay and attention and made it to number 83 in the Charts (don't laugh, this was a big moment!). Some copies of previous singles had made their way to Tokyo, and suddenly there was demand from Japan for an album to be released as soon as possible, and for us to go and play there.

I knew that we needed another year to finish the album properly and didn't want to rush it. Somebody had the idea of pulling together all the tracks we had recorded so far which weren't going to be on "A Week Away" and making that an album for Japan. Because we had made several singles, we had enough tracks, and "Songs For the Colour Yellow" was born.

Of course, this album did not include "A Trip Into Space" or "Sweeping The Nation" and this confused people. There is a school of thought that if those singles had been included, the album would have crossed over and sold a decent amount. I have to say that if we had our time again, I would want to do exactly the same thing - the important thing was to try and get "A Week Away" as right as we could - we now have that album and we are very proud of it, which ultimately is of far more value than selling records.

We are very fond of "Songs For The Colour Yellow" - it does work as an album, and is a lovely record for us of making those early singles and b-sides. Also, it includes "This Is Green, This Is Grey" which is one of our best songs.
